You are marked by Standardized Patients who use a checklist system to assess Doctors, if you deviate from this you may fail. Our Kaplan course teaches you exactly what to expect from the exam and allows you to practice in a real exam environment with Standardized Patients.

You will receive USMLE Step 2CS Lecture Notes to use during and after your course.

USMLE Step 2CS Overview

To work or train as a Doctor in the US as an International Medical Graduate, you must have ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) Certification. The ECFMG is the body that certifies your qualifications, telling US Program Coordinators that you have the qualifications and experience necessary to work in the US.

To gain ECFMG Certification you must take the USMLE Step 1, 2CK and 2CS exams.

The USMLE Step 2CS exam is typically taken by US Medical Graduates after their forth year at Medical School. It tests your Clinical Skills; patient interaction, communication and English Language skills.

USMLE Step 2CS Scores

When you take the USMLE Step 2CS exam, you'll receive a pass or fail, but no actual score. You will be faced with 12 Standardized Patients, 11 of which will be scored. You must pass all Standardized Patient Interactions to pass the exam. The Standardized Patient will make up 85% of your score.

It will take 6-12 weeks to receive your score. If you fail you'll need to retake and places for this exam book up quickly.

One in six International Graduates fail this exam.

Register for the USMLE Step 2CS

To register for your USMLE Step 2CS exam, you must first register with the ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates). This is the body the certifies your qualifications to work or train in the US. You must have ECFMG Certification to enter Residency or Fellowship and to gain State Licensure.

Register for an ECFMG "Token" at www.ecfmg.org. This is an ID number used for your account. You'll need to send a form 186 (identification form) signed by a Dean and Notary service and check your Medical School appears in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED).

To book your USMLE Step 2CS exam, you'll need to pick a twelve month Eligibility Period in which you plan to take your USMLE Step 2CS exam. Once you've selected this time, you will be sent a Scheduling Permit, with instructions for booking your USMLE Step 2CS exam. You can only take the USMLE Step 2CS in the following locations in the US:
